Cathy (Harvey) Lakey was born and raised in Council, attending school here all 12 grades and graduating in 1982. She married Jed Lakey and they moved to the Treasure Valley, where she attended ITT, earning a secretarial certificate. The couple returned to Council in 1983 and in 1984, Cathy was hired by the school district as the district clerk-treasurer, and has worked at the position ever since. During this time, she and Jed raised three daughters, who all graduated from Council High School. While the girls were in school, Cathy kept the scorebook for volleyball, basketball and softball, coached softball for the Council Recreation program and as the varsity assistant, coached junior high volleyball and varsity cross-country, and was active in PTA and boosters.
In 2011, with the children grown and raised, Cathy was looking for a new challenge, so when Cambridge School District offered her the chance to help them out with their December payroll and bills during a time of transition, she jumped at the opportunity. It worked out so well Cambridge contracted with Council School District to share her time. Now she works in Council in the mornings Monday through Friday and in Cambridge in the afternoons Monday through Thursday.
With a strong background in accounting, over the past 30 years Cathy has been able to bring the district from all hand posted ledgers and accounts to a computerized accounting software system. She continues to seek better ways to do her job and to stay current in her field. Recently she traveled throughout Idaho with the Department of Education assisting with workshops on the Idaho System for Educational Excellence (ISEE), a K-12 longitudinal data system, and also training on the accounting program used by the district. Cathy strives at all times to be professional and to take the best care possible of the district’ money. She welcomes questions about and interest in the school’s budget and finances.
The district office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday year-round.
