English I

This course is designed to focus on three major areas of concern: improving and preparing for State standardized tests; reading, gaining knowledge through and responding to various fictional, non-fictional, dramatic and poetic works; and developing a mature, purposeful writing style. First semester students will read, discuss and analyze Greek Mythology and The Odyssey. They will then do the same for a variety of short stories and poetry.  Second Semester students will read, discuss and analyze Romeo and Juliet and work through a survival unit that incorporates textbook units and a trip to the local smokejumper base. All year we will take advantage of the technology available, thus some assignments will be introduced, taught and completed electronically. Students will write several papers including analysis, argumentative, and prepare a presentation.
